2013 Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser of the Year Award
The Maryland Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals is proud to honor Barbara Bozzuto as the 2013 Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser in Maryland.
Barbara was nominated by the Saint Agnes Hospital Foundation, where she currently serves on the hospital’s Legacy Committee and as chair of the hospital’s first-ever Capital Campaign Committee. Barbara first became involved with Saint Agnes in 2002 as a new board member. From the beginning, she has been a remarkable champion of the hospital’s mission to provide healthcare that leaves no person behind. The Daughters of Charity’s compelling mission and unassuming service had brought many generous donations to Saint Agnes over 150 years, but the ambitions for a renaissance of facilities needed a leader like Barbara. She worked tirelessly to introduce her wide network of friends and business associates to Saint Agnes and her organizational skills brought the fundraising objectives of the hospital into a new era of sophistication, even through an economic downturn that worried nonprofits everywhere. In the process, she also served as the vice-chair and chair of the hospital board, overseeing the many strategic decisions affecting delivery of modern healthcare. Her leadership and high standards have been invaluable to Saint Agnes, which is in the closing stages of its $25 million campaign. In April of 2011, the hospital opened a new seven-story hospital bed tower to serve the Baltimore community — the centerpiece of the Beacon of Hope Capital Campaign and a testament to the vision of the campaign chair, Barbara Bozzuto.
Barbara’s energy extends to many other philanthropic activities and she has been active in Baltimore nonprofits for more than 30 years. She currently is a board member of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, the Enoch Pratt Free Library, and the National Advisory Committee of the Peabody Conservatory. She was formerly the chair of the board of WYPR Radio. Her other volunteer fundraising activities have included the Maryland Science Center, Baltimore Women’s Giving Circle charter member, the Walters Art Museum Gala, and the Baltimore Choral Arts Society. Barbara’s professional awards include Baltimore Magazine Top Businesswomen of the Year, Maryland’s Top 100 Women, and Saint Agnes’ highest honor, the Caritas Award.
Barbara has also been a leader in the community through her professional work as president of Bozzuto Marketing, a special events, sponsorship, and sports marketing company, until 2000. Prior to that, she was director of the Baltimore Office of Promotion and the Arts, executive director of Baltimore Operation Sail, and public relations director of Pride of Baltimore, Inc.
AFP-Maryland is honored to recognize Barbara Bozzuto for her outstanding volunteerism in fundraising.
